The Pinus radiata,  commonly known as insignis pine or montrey pine, comes from the west coast of the United States, that is, from California. Its presence in the Basque Country dates from mid XIXth century and it adapted successfully to the  climate and soil of the country. It even achieved a better growth in less time than that of those in the area of origin.

Its timber has such technical qualities that makes it  very desirable and attractive for the celulose industry  due to its long grain. It is used to make cardboard, thin cardboard and  resistent  paper. Its use has also  spread widely in the timber industry as well as in the building sector.
